To call the relationship between islanders and interlopers tense doesn''t begin to describe a situation fraught with distrust, danger, and maddening uncertainty. Alfred Burke (Longitude, The Brontës of Haworth) plays the German military commandant charged with maintaining order, and Bernard Horsfall (Braveheart, Jewel in the Crown) is the local doctor who represents the islanders.
